Collection of Tasting Notes

Whites

2V: A pretty 50%-50% blend of Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, it sports a light golden color, which leads into aromas of honey and honeysuckle with hints of pineapple. Mouth-filling flavors of tropical fruit and pears tickle the palate, followed by a nice, looong finish....a great food wine!

Casa Madero Chardonnay: 100% Chardonnay. An attractive golden color, this wine brings aromas of warm toast, honey, and pineapple floating up from the glass, followed by delicious citrusy flavors of cinnamon, peach, and guayaba, with mineral and buttery notes. It is fresh tasting and expressive, with balanced acidity that confirms its fruit character. It has the hallmark of a superior vino, a long lingering finish. One third of the wine is fermented in American oak barrels for three months, the remainder in stainless steel.

Casa Madero Chenin Blanc: 100% Chenin Blanc. This pretty little everyday quaffer starts with a delicate floral nose of honeysuckle, pears, and sweet nuts, then leads into a mouthful of delicious fruity flavors of pineapple and tangy orange zest, followed by a nice smooth finish. Clean as a whistle, this pretty little everyday sipper sees no oak; its early life is spent in 100% stainless steel. In 2007, this beauty won a Gold Medal at the Monde Selection in Brussels, took the Silver at the San Francisco Wine Competition and at The Thessaloniki Wine Competition in Thessaloniki, Greece. This is a wine for people who don’t ordinarily drink wine and is a great value!

Casa Madero Semillon: 100% Semillon. Usually used as a blend with Sauvignon Blanc, here it’s in full flower as a stand-alone varietal. Beautiful medium gold colors lead into aromas and flavors of sweet nuts, honey, herbs, and toast. Sporting a fat 13.4% alcohol, it’ll remind you of a full-blown Calif. Chardonnay with its fresh taste and fleshy flavors. Great food wine and terrific value.

L. A. Cetto Reserve Viognier: 100% Viognier. Light golden color, pretty nose of honeysuckle, with hints of spices, followed by dry, crisp flavors of cashews, honey, & orange peel. Nice loooong finish. If this doesn’t turn you on to the joys of Viognier, nothing will! Just a delicious wine!

Chateau Camou Fume Blanc: 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Medium golden color. Fat aromas of tropical fruit and honey float up from the glass. Rich flavors of cinnamon, citrus, with a hint of spices bathe the palate, followed by a looong finish. Spent 6 mos. in French oak. A silky, sexy wine which will pair with a number of different foods!

Monteviña Blanco: Finally! A tasty, white quaffer at a great price! A blend of Chardonnay and Semillon, it serves up a light straw color and balances the crispiness of the Chard with the "fleshier" Semillon to create a fruit-forward, slightly sweet finish that will appeal to those who favor light food fare. From Casa Madero

Monte Xanic Chenin Colombard: From the Baja comes this 95% Chenin Blanc, 5% Colombard. Pleasant floral nose of honeysuckle floats up from the glass. Flavors of pears, oranges and fig refresh the mouth. This is a fruit driven, easy-drinking beauty. Its harmonious flavors make it appropriate as an aperitif or to accompany dishes ranging from lightly spiced to very spicy. A knock-out value!

Roganto Winery Chardonnay: 100% Chardonnay. Steely crisp, citrusy, Montrachet-style chard that never sees oak and is packed with loads of lemon zest, pear, and grapefruit flavors with a hint of sweet spices and a finish from here to Christmas! A chard for those who have sworn off the Calif. style in this varietal! Great food wine!

San Lorenzo Blanco: A tasty blend of 50% Chenin Blanc, 25% Chardonnay, and 25% Columbard, it sports a pretty light straw color, with crisp, citrusy, tropical fruit flavors, along with sweet herbs and floral notes. It is excellent as an aperitif or to accompany cheeses, fish, or seafood, and a screaming value! From Casa Madero.

Viña Kristel: Here’s the absolute perfect food wine: in a delicious glass of 100% Sauvignon Blanc; this beauty exhibits a light golden color. A lovely nose of melon, honeysuckle and caramel fly out of the glass. Complex flavors of apple, pear, sweet nuts, and hints of herbs bathe the palate. This is one of the most elegant white wines made in Mexico (with a more affordable price tag!). It’ll pair up beautifully with most light dishes. Don’t miss this one! From Monte Xanic, Baja California.

Reds

Adobe Guadalupe Tinto: a knock-out blend of 38% Syrah, 16% Mourvedre, 16% Cinsault, 16% Grenache, 6% Tempranillo, 5% Merlot, 3% Viognier, this silky, elegant Rhone style teeth-stainer is packed with varietal flavors of spices, earthy dark fruit, and a finish that lasts from here to Christmas!

Casa Madero Cabernet Sauvignon: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. With aromas of cherry and raspberry, wood, and spices, this is an elegant and silky wine. A fine balance of fruit and mature tannins and a persistent and agreeable finish. The wine is aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak.

Casa Madero Merlot: 100% Merlot. Aged in French oak barrels from Alliers for 6 months. It spends a minimum of one year in the bottle before release. It has a well-defined varietal character, velvety in the mouth, with medium body and a smooth, round feel on the palate. Aromas of red and black fruits, cherry, raspberry, blackberries, and raisins. Ideal with chiles rellenos or chicken or beef stews.

Casa Madero 3V: Here's a sleek, smooth red that'll make your taste buds twist and shout! A blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Tempranillo, it spends a year in oak before release. Aromas of blackberries, blueberries, and cedar waft up from the glass, followed by flavors of mocha, dark fruit, and a hint of sweet spices, topped off with a nice long finish! Best to give it a few minutes in the glass after opening. Drinking beautifully now, it should last a year or two if cellared well! A tribute to the levels of quality Mexican wine can achieve!"

Casa Madero Shiraz: 100% Shiraz. This wine is a full-figured girl aged for 12 months in barrels of new French and American oak. It has in-your-face aromas of cherry, tobacco, leather, blackberry, and spices. It has intense briary, tangy, slightly “foxy” flavors of cherries with hints of pepper, nicely balanced with soft tannins and a finish that keeps on keepin’ on! Great foil for slightly spicy Mexican/Southwestern cuisine!

Echelon Pinot Noir: Finally, a delicious Pinot Noir in SMA at a reasonable price! The famous grape varietal from Burgundy has reached great heights of popularity recently in the U.S. (thanks to the movie “Sideways”), but has barely reached the Mexican market. This Pinot from Echelon in the Beaune area of France sports a 13.7% alcohol and is a good example of the type. With strong aromas of cherry and clove, it is medium-bodied and deliciously flavored.

Monteviña Tinto: A classic Bordeaux/Meritage blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, this is simply the best red wine value on the street! It's become our "house" red! The fruity structure of the Cab marries with the Merlot dark cherry and white pepper flavors. A medium weight, straight ahead, excellent food wine better than it has to be!

San Lorenzo Tinto: This wine is the result of a meticulous blending of Cabernet Sauvignon and Tempranillo, which gives it an excellent balance between tannin and fruit, with a very pleasing aroma and delicate flavor. Great everyday sipper from Casa Madero, and a screaming deal!
