Terrific Mexican Wine……..Who Knew?

Just about everyone knows that grape rootstock was brought to the Americas by Spanish missionaries, but did you know Mexico is the oldest (400+ years!) wine producing country in the Western Hemisphere? Yep, before California, before Chile, before Argentina became well known sources of vino, Mexico was quietly producing the good juice!

Did you know almost all the varietals that one finds north of the border are produced here? Award winning fruity, citrusy, flavorful, “blancos” such as Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Viognier share the table with outstanding “tintos” such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Barbera, and Tempranillo that offer amazing concentration, intensity, and power!

Wineries here range from the giant producers such as L. A. Cetto, clocking in at about a million cases per year, to the small, family owned, artisanal, winery whose total production may not exceed 500 cases annually, mostly consumed locally.
